San Diego’s Republican Mayor, Kevin Faulconer, appears to have embraced the QAnon conspiracy cult. According to an Instagram post (archive) on Sunday 13 September, Faulconer believes that California Governor Gavin Newsom recently legalized paedophilia. This post, based on a basic misunderstanding of California SB145, reiterated several QAnon-aligned conspiracies.

Last year, Don James Grundmann, a religious bigot with ties to the Proud Boys and founder of the National Straight Pride Coalition, tried to hold a “Straight Pride Parade” in Modesto, CA. Grundmann’s intent was to hijack the “Straight Pride” branding of a Boston-based fascist group called Resist Marxism, who got national attention for the stunt. To capitalize off the Boston event, Grundmann wanted to hold his event a week before Resist Marxism’s. At the first Straight Pride Event in Modesto last year, the National Straight Pride Coalition struggled with PR, denied permits due to lack of insurance, and then the day of the event a handful of bigots got chased out of a barn they rented for the event by the owners, and got shouted down by a hundred or more antifascists, and liberals from the Modesto Pride Center.
This year, it was a rough one.
EDITOR'S NOTE : Scans of the full memo obtained by LCRW can be viewed at the bottom of this article.
A memo published by the Office of Intelligence and Analysis (OIA), part of the Department of Homeland Security, on August 17th says that violent extremists motivated by ideologies like white supremacy “could quickly mobilize to threaten or engage in violence against election or campaign-related targets in response to perceived partisan and policy-based grievances.”
The memo says that while the OIA aren’t aware of a specific plot to attack the election physically, “open-air, publicly accessible parts of physical election infrastructure,” such as campaign and voter registration events, “would be the most likely flashpoints for potential violence.”

Tensions were high as hundreds of people marched through Oakland on Wednesday evening to protest against the police shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin on August 23. Speakers led the crowd in chanting the names of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, and Oakland’s own Oscar Grant who was killed by BART police in 2008.
